CoronaReport is a citizen science project for documenting the influence of COVID-19 on our lives. Citizens can use the CoronaReport app to share their stories and to better understand how the virus is changing lives all around the world. Who created CoronaReport?
CoronaReport was developed by SPOTTERON, a world-leading citizen science mobile app company, in collaboration with the Scottish Collaboration for Public Health Research and Policy (SCPHRP), which is based at The University of Edinburgh, School of Health in Social Science.

Yes! Data live in two places.
Data at SPOTTERON: Data on the CoronaReport platform are securely encrypted and never monetized. Users are never tracked and SPOTTERON does not allow third party scripts. For more information please visit: https://www.spotteron.net/citizen-science-app-features/privacy-data-safety
Data at The University of Edinburgh (UofE): UofE receives anonymous, aggregated data for research purposes. These data are stored on secure servers at the University. The study research protocol was reviewed and approved by an Ethics Review Board at the University of Edinburgh. Importantly, the UofE doesn’t have access to information on the CoronaReport platform that isn’t already publicly available, so there is no risk to privacy or confidentiality.
Can other institutions access CoronaReport data for research purposes?
If you are a researcher at another institution and are interested in collaboratively conducting a research project please email This email address is being protected from spambots. Data requests will be managed with a data use agreement and will require an approved study protocol (ethics assessment) prior to data transfer.
